Profitable

Profitable

In the rush for power, wealth and fame many are caught. These things, while holding out the promise of a better life, bring suffering to those who fall for their allurements, 1 Timothy 6:7-10. But what is even worse; these things blind one to what has lasting profit. The temptation to give oneself over to them is one we all must overcome.

Jesus asks us: “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?” Mark 8:36. This question is one that we need to consider. Can you imagine having all of the world’s wealth and power? Jesus made it clear: joining the rush for earthly profit would cost one his life, Mark 8:34-35. Would you sell your soul in the pursuit of money?

In another place Jesus taught: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon the earth” Matthew 6:19. He gives us two reasons. First of all, these earthly treasures do not last. Moth and rust destroy them. Thieves steal them. Secondly, they take our hearts away from God. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24. Many are deceived into thinking they can pursue wealth and seek God too. Jesus says that this is impossible. Again we must make a choice. Put your heart into loving and serving God. Matthew 6: 20-23.

Where are you going to turn to find out how to serve God? “All scripture is inspired by God” 2 Timothy 3:16. It stands to reason that we must hear and accept as true what God has said in order to serve Him. The scriptures are God’s mind revealed to man by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:10-13. This profit we will find to be spiritual, heavenly and lasting.

In the world there are countless ‘how to’ get rich books. There is one you need to buy. It is not the promise of earthly riches that this book holds. Rather this book will give you the information you need to bring profit to your soul. Do you own a Bible? In it is your true profit.
